Lynette Shaw, Ret. Sgt. and Founder
Biography:
- Lynette Shaw Butler was born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey and attended Paterson public schools. She currently resides in Florida. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in psychology from William Paterson University of New Jersey. She is certified in Suicide Prevention, Crisis Intervention, Military Veteran Services Provider and is currently a national trainer for various therapists and clinicians who specialize in First Responder Therapy. Ms. Butler has trained Police, Sherriffs officers, dispatchers and Fire and EMS personnel and travels across the country conducting seminars for law enforcement and fire departments. She is a certified retirement coach and has Co- written a book on pre-retirement planning entitled, “Your Countdown to Retirement for Law Enforcement. ” She is also the CEO and founder of Lynn Shaw Group specializing in Mental Health Education and Consulting.
Professional Experience:
In 1993, after 13 years in fugitive investigations, Ms. Lynette Butler Shaw began her law enforcement career with the William Paterson University Police Department. Over the course of her 27-year career, she served in progressive leadership roles, including Provisional Detective Lieutenant and Commander, and established the department’s Community Policing Unit.
In 2010, Ms. Butler Shaw was selected to serve as Director of the Office of Veteran & Military Affairs at William Paterson University, where she designed and launched a pilot program to support military veterans returning from deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq.
In 2015, she developed specialized curriculum in mental health, wellness, and de-escalation to strengthen readiness and resilience among first responders, including military, law enforcement, and fire rescue personnel. In 2018, she founded the Lynn Shaw Group, a training and consulting firm dedicated to advancing mental health and wellness education for first responders, educators, and underserved young adults at risk.
